Toon Vanagt is an entrepreneur with a broad experience in all aspects of creating and managing internet ventures. He bought his first domain name in 1995 and has been building many web applications ever since.
In 1999 he co-founded Casius.com, an internet platform to connect home owners who want to make construction and renovation projects with qualified local contractors. In parallel with expanding Casius – that became the leading online marketplace in Benelux – Toon developed other ventures: Promex.be (web development), Virtualization.com (media portal) & Virtualisers.be (ICT consulting).
His latest venture is Data.be, born as a start-up weekend project in January 2011. Data.be aims to disrupt the information about Belgian companies, sourcing it from the Staatsblad/Moniteur Belge, the annual accounts of the National Bank and government sources. Data.be offers a free search tool, but also an alert subscription that allow costumers to receive updates as soon as any Belgian company publishes official information. Toon knows a lot about handling big data with the latest open source technology (Elasticsearch, Hadoop, NoSQL, Ocropus,..) and also offers consulting services.
This is how the search engine of Data.be looks like
data.beIf you want to start a big data project or just want know more about big data, e-business, innovation projects & ventures, Toon is the right person to talk to. He recommends not to mention any available domains near him, as he is trying to recover from Domain Registration Compulsive Disorder (DRCD) 🙂
